PicketPilotFENCE MATERIAL PLANNING

NO HIDDEN MULTIPLIERS

How the planner
counts.

Connection arithmetic and material coverage are useful estimates. They do not design a fence or locate a boundary.

Posts and bays

For each fence run, bays = round up (length ÷ selected maximum bay). Interior posts = bays − 1. Total posts = unique named endpoints + all interior posts. Shared labels count once. Gate endpoints are included in that same unique set.

Gate segments add no pickets or fence rails. Duplicate/reversed connections, self-connections and junctions with more than two segments are rejected. Connected paths, disconnected runs and closed loops are supported. Geometry is schematic; no corner angle, elevation or boundary coordinates are inferred.

Pickets and rails

Each run is split into equal bays. Per-bay pickets = round up [(bay feet × 12 + gap inches) ÷ (actual board width + gap)]. Sum bay quantities, apply the selected extra percentage, then round up. This covers face-mounted single-row pickets, with a final cut permitted. No offcuts are reused.

Rails = fence bays × user-selected rails per bay. Each rail needs adequate length for its bay and actual connection details. Maximum bay, rail count, gap, post size and board type are user assumptions, not structural recommendations. Prefabricated panels, shadowbox, overlaps, steep slopes and three-way junctions need different layouts.

Concrete and dollars

Net hole volume = [π(diameter/2)² − actual post width × depth] × concrete fill height ÷ 1,728, with dimensions in inches. Add the entered extra percentage, divide by the exact bag yield, and round either per hole or across all identical holes. The hole must fit the rectangular post’s diagonal.

Every nonzero material quantity needs a price for a complete entered-items budget. A blank price stays unknown; zero quantity has zero cost. Whole material quantities are extended by the entered unit price and rounded to cents. Delivery and tax are separate dollar allowances. No national price average, stock claim or installed-price estimate is generated.

Observed supplier reference prices

Five product records were checked October 13, 2026. Top Fence Supply, Leesburg FL: 4x4x8 PT post $19.30 each; 2x4x8 PT rail $8.42 each. Texas Fence Installation, Houston TX: 5.5-inch actual-width pine picket $1.95, 4x4x8 post $10.70 and 2x4x8 rail $4.50 each. Individual product sources and qualifying bulk prices appear beside the calculator results.

Selection uses approximate straight-line distance among compatible records in this small dataset, not every supplier. Supplier-published location points are used. Records are withheld after a 30-day site review interval; that interval is not a supplier price guarantee. The Florida cedar picket is excluded because actual width is unverified. Gate posts, gate kits, concrete, delivery and tax have no seeded prices. Stock and delivery to your location are unverified. Manual prices override references.
